This is for Them
For that persistent
little tongue (and his persistent tongue in cheek). For those capable little
hands and that giant brain in that little boys head. A head I've cradled and
combed and washed and kissed. For that little man who is going to be
radiant.
For that hand at the corner of her mouth, those bright inquisitive eyes. For her brother's shirt and her daddy's hat and her mommy's kitty pin and a heart so big she can't handle it. A heart I've shaken and consoled and emboldened and treasured. For a little woman is going to be exquisite.
This slight lean toward self sufficiency is for my children.
For him
who gave me these things in addition to his heart. For his strength in the face
of it all, his resistance and insistence and constant push and pull. He is the
challenge I have searched for and he is the more than the man and reward I
deserve.
I don't honestly think that making swiffer covers and homemade tortillas will save our souls, but I believe that in many ways we can search for humility in exploring the options we have outside of the superstores, the office place, the ready-made life span in a box on drip feed. If we live to be 60, I want to have lived.
And I want to live life to its fullest with these three people.
