The Help

I need your help, I can't do this on my own.

1.) I want to learn how to cook good food for my family. I can cook - how many dishes? Let's list them, then count.
Decent fried chicken
Real mashed potatoes
Stir Fry
Bisquick cheeseburger pie (which doesn't always turn out well)
Hashbrowns
Cinnamon rolls from a can
Pico de gallo
Seven things I can make. I know that I should plan meals. I should make a grocery list every week or two. Tell me something I don't know.

2.) I want to sew my own clothes. My wardrobe is Worn. The. F. OUT.  I'm serious, the F-ing kind of serious. Here's what I want to sew, it's a $60 dress from Modcloth. How could I spend $60 on something to wear when $60 will pay for a week's worth of well planned meals? How could I spend $60 on a dress? I've always had wardrobe guilt. It's shows.
Oh, that's tiny.

And also as well, it's hard to find time for shopping when you work and raise children, but you probably knew that. Now, tell me something I don't know.

3.) I want time to do something I enjoy, but I need to figure out just what exactly I still enjoy. Let's list what I've enjoyed before, then count.
Pottery
Embroidery
Music
Reading
Four things. Here's what I have to work with: I have a pottery wheel in my kitchen and 25 lbs. of clay. I have twenty-some-odd pots sitting at the clay studio waiting to be glazed. I have a plethora of material, inspiration, floss, threads, needles, and hoops. I have access to the internet everywhere I go and an iPod. I take the kids to the library about every two weeks. ..........I have every opportunity to do just exactly what I enjoy. Tell me something I don't know.

This is getting pitiful. I asked Lynden to "tell me something I don't know" a few days ago. He gave me the funniest look and pondered for a second. Then he said, "Daddy makes ninjas." Well said, little man. They both asked me last night what soap is made of. They both decided they had better ask their Daddy. He knows most things. No, everything, I was informed. I'm glad of that. But, I need to know better. I need to do better for myself to be better for them. And it shows.

Now, tell me something I don't know.
